“After more than 20 years caring for textured hair, I wanted to create something rooted in the needs I kept hearing about.”
Working with natural hair, locs, braids and protective styles taught me to look beyond the finished hairstyle. I listened to concerns about product buildup and scalp care, and to people navigating chemical processing, changes with age and everyday environmental exposure.
Those conversations stayed with me. I wanted a scalp-care gesture that could fit between the parts of locs and braids, with attention directed to the roots rather than excess product spread through the style.
My training in herbalism added another perspective to that experience: a deeper interest in plants and the ingredients we choose for our personal care. Together, these experiences inspired Follicle Code — a botanical oil blend with argan, peppermint, rosemary and plant extracts.
For me, AfroElixir is about bringing experience, intention and an understanding of our routines into one simple moment of care.
